Results to Date
We believe industry has a key role to play in the transformation of our society towards sustainability. It has been acknowledged that energy and resource efficiency have been the main drivers to establish an environmentally less damaging economy.
That is why back in 2009/2010 we joined a Climate Change Agreement for the plastics sector, governed by the Environment Agency.
As part of this agreement we were set targets to reduce our SEC (specific energy consumption) over the term of the agreement. SEC is effectively how many kilowatt hours of energy we have used to process a kilogram of plastic. The lower the SEC the more efficient we have been.
We are currently in phase 2 of the agreement and have continually exceeded our targets.
Climate Change Agreement, Phase 2 – 2013 to 2020 | Target SEC Reduction | Achieved SEC Reduction |
---|---|---|
Target period 1 – 2013 & 2014 | 8.500% | 53.261% |
Target period 2 – 2015 & 2016 | 11.336% | 63.975% |
Target period 3 – 2017 & 2018 | 14.172% | 53.932% |
We also set targets for land fill waste. In the last seven years we have managed to reduce our land fill waste by 55%.
